Help Us Catch the Killer of Doug

Zoom In

Who would shoot a koala? What kind of person would shoot two – a mother and its baby? These are the questions that confronted the community in January 2010, when we heard the news of the shooting of an adult female and her tiny joey in Morayfield.

The baby boy rescuers named Doug, pictured above, died during surgery to remove two bullets from his 940 gram body.

His mother had a bullet removed from her leg, and while she recovered from her injury and has since been returned to the wild, the trauma of her injuries and loss affected us all.

We would like to see the perpetrator or perpetrators of this crime receive the maximum penalty under the law – a $300,000 fine or two years in jail.

If you have information that could lead to the identification and capture of those involved, please call Caboolture Police Station on 07 5495 0444.

We have decided to provide additional incentive for people to come forward with information and established a reward fund.

If you would like to assist us in raising a $5,000 reward for the person who leads the police to a successful prosecution, you will be joining local MP’s and Councillors and members of the community who are united in a desire to ensure the capture of Doug’s killer. Please donate to Doug’s Reward Fund now.

In October 2010 the Police told us they closed the case, as they haven’t been able to find enough evidence to prosecute anyone over this horrible crime. And still it happened again: in November 2010 a little girl, named Frodo, was taken to the wildlife hospital with 15 bullets in her body. Most of them have been removed, and all we can do is hope she will make it to adulthood.
